Reason

“Everything happens for a reason” does this phrase bring you comfort? For me, it used to but now, it infuriates me. Have you noticed that we only say it when something bad happens, as if to comfort ourselves, that this was meant to be; therefore, I guess, “this too shall pass". If we truly believed that every single thing happened for a reason, then we would be using this phrase for good circumstances too. Somethings, yes, happen for a reason, when others are just happening, that’s life. Good a bad things sometimes, just, happen. However, why is it so comforting to tell yourself that this is all for some upcoming reason. Like, everything you go though big or small, is driving you towards an ending that has already been written. By who? Creator, your god? I think that it’s the small things that make us, like being the person that picks up the liter you just walked by, or putting a little something in the tip jar, skipping that person in line, hanging up on someone who needed you, I think it’s the little things that make us. I don’t know about you, but I could do without trauma, loss and the anger and pain they’ve caused me. The trauma made me strong, but did it make me stronger. I’m only stronger because I’m a team of one. Trauma, anger and loss, have made me trust no one, have made me angry. I think some people have gone through enough trauma in their lives and after the first time, I don’t know how much more you’re “learning”. So, “everything happens for a reason”, no. More accurately, things happen.

*shit happens
